How I lost 50lbs as a busy af mom

2024 was the year I took chances, pushed myself, and showed up in ways I never thought I would. I’ve always had big goals, but it wasn’t until this year that I really started to make things happen. I went from feeling stuck to losing 50 lbs and transforming my life in more ways than one. It wasn’t just about the weight loss; it was about reclaiming my energy and the confidence I thought I’d lost.

As a working mom who’s juggling a full-time job and caring for my son, I used to think there was no way I could “glow up” like I saw others do. But I’ve broken it down into four key changes I made throughout the year, and I’m sharing them with you in case they help you on your own journey.

1. Mindset Shift: From All or Nothing to Something is Better Than Nothing

One of the biggest changes I made in 2024 was in my mindset. I was stuck in an all-or-nothing mentality. If I couldn’t give 100%, I felt like I shouldn’t even try. But that approach wasn’t serving me, especially as a busy mom. I realized that even giving 1% effort every day adds up.

When I switched to a “something is better than nothing” mindset, it allowed me to show up for myself consistently. Even on the hardest days, I could give a little, and it always paid off.

Also, I stopped beating myself up if I didn’t do things perfectly. We all fall off the wagon sometimes. It’s not about getting everything right; it’s about showing up again, no matter how small the effort.

2. Habit Stacking: Small Changes, Big Results

When I first started working out, I knew I had to ease into it. I couldn’t try to change everything at once; it wasn’t sustainable. That’s when I discovered habit stacking.

Instead of overwhelming myself with major lifestyle changes, I started small. I committed to 10 minutes of movement a day for 30 days. By the end of the month, it was a habit. After that, I increased it to 15 minutes, then 20, and eventually to 30 minutes.

Slowly, I started adding new habits onto the old ones. Each new habit felt natural because it was built on the one before. This approach made all the difference, and by the end of 2024, I was working out consistently without even thinking twice about it.

3. Nutrition: Keep It Simple

For a long time, I struggled with finding the energy to meal prep and eat healthy. I was busy, exhausted, and didn’t want to spend hours in the kitchen. But I knew I needed to make a change.

So, I kept it simple. I found a few go-to meals I loved and rotated them throughout the week. I didn’t stress about perfecting recipes or trying to make every meal look Instagram-worthy. I focused on the basics: protein, veggies, and healthy carbs.

I also started paying more attention to when and why I was eating. I noticed I often ate out of boredom or stress, not hunger. By listening to my body and slowing down while eating, I stopped mindlessly snacking, and that made a big difference in how I felt.

4. Fitness: At-Home Workouts Made All the Difference

Getting to the gym was always a struggle. Between work and taking care of my son, finding time to drive to the gym was a challenge. That’s when I decided to switch to at-home workouts.

It was a game-changer. Not only did I save time, but I also found that I could still achieve the same results with minimal equipment. I started doing short, effective workouts at home, and it became so much easier to stay consistent.

Now, I prioritize movement every day. It doesn’t have to be a full hour at the gym. Even just a short workout or some light stretching has become a non-negotiable part of my routine.

2024 was a year of growth, change, and transformation. It wasn’t always easy, but the small, consistent steps I took each day paid off. I’ve never felt better physically, mentally, or emotionally, and I’m so excited to keep building on this momentum as I head into the new year.

If you're looking to make changes in your life, start with one small shift, and then build from there. Remember: something is always better than nothing, and consistency is key. You’ve got this!
