If I Were Starting My 50lb Weight Loss Journey Over Again… Here’s What I’d Do

If I had to start my 50lb weight loss journey over again, I wouldn’t wait. I wouldn’t second-guess every decision or try to have the perfect plan before taking action. Because the truth is, the perfect plan doesn’t exist. What matters is starting—and then adjusting as you go.

So if you’re sitting on the sidelines, waiting for the right moment to begin your own journey, here’s exactly what I’d do if I were in your shoes.

Start NOW

No waiting until Monday. No waiting for the “right” time. Just start. Even if that just means drinking more water today, taking a short walk, or adding one extra serving of veggies to your plate. The biggest mistake I made early on was thinking I needed to overhaul my entire life at once. You don’t. Start small, start messy, but start.

Find Your Community

Weight loss is harder when you’re doing it alone. Having a support system—whether it’s a group of like-minded women, a coach, or even just an accountability partner—can make all the difference. Surrounding myself with people who got it helped me stay consistent, even on the days I wanted to quit.

Find Your WHY

Not just “I want to lose weight.” But why do you want to lose weight? For me, it was about feeling strong, having energy for my son, and finally feeling comfortable in my own body. Your why has to be bigger than just a number on the scale—it needs to be something that keeps you going when motivation fades.

Pick ONE Goal (And Stick to It for 30 Days)

When I first started, I wanted to change everything at once—my diet, workouts, sleep, mindset… and it was overwhelming. Instead, I recommend picking one simple goal to focus on first. My suggestion? Commit to daily movement for 30 days. It doesn’t have to be intense—just something to build consistency and momentum.

The Most Important Mindset Shift: Your Next Move Can Always Be a Pivot

This is the one thing I wish I had understood earlier: you are allowed to adjust as you go. If something isn’t working, pivot. If you miss a day, keep going. If you realize your first plan wasn’t the best fit for you, switch it up. There is no “failure” unless you quit completely.

At the end of the day, weight loss isn’t about being perfect—it’s about taking small, consistent steps and being willing to adapt. If you’ve been waiting for the right time to start, consider this your sign. Start now. Keep going. And remember, you can always pivot along the way. 💕
